Proposal Title
Columbus Artmobile

Please describe your proposal?
With the decreasing funding being given to local elementary and middle school art programs, and the loss of art teaching positions in the local school systems, I would like to introduce the idea of a mobile art class...the Artmobile. This classroom on wheels would service a middle or elementary school class, before or after school program or summer program once a week for a 6 week period, offering age appropriate instruction on drawing, painting, pottery and mixed media, as well as special presentations from local artists giving students the ability to hear about life as a working artist in Columbus.

What is the timeframe for the proposal and its completion?
Contingent on a formal arrangement with a local school or school aged program, I would like to see the first 6 week session of the Artmobile begin with the start of the 2010-2011 school year. Ideally the first session would be the launch of the program, continuing throughout the school year and summer months through additional fundraising efforts, with zero costs to the school or students.

How will you use the award money to complete the proposal?
The FEAST grant would go towards the purchase of art supplies for the students, printed literature for the school, compensation/travel expenses for the teaching crew with any leftover funding being invested in advertising the program to other schools, rec centers, boys and girls clubs, etc.

The projected breakdown of costs-
60% or $600 - art supplies and materials
20% or $200- advertising, print literature for schools, students and parents
20% or $200- compensation and travel expenditure for teaching crew, speakers

What makes this the proposal to vote for?
The grand vision of this idea....

A van passing through town, painted with vibrant colors and a logo that reads "Columbus Artmobile". Pulls into the parking lot of Indianola Middle School, kids flock to the windows...it's Tuesday, Artmobile day! Local artisans emerge from the van, carting fresh paints, paper, clay, brushes....a young art enthusiast's dream. An afternoon is spent introducing 12 year olds to the world of charcoal, pastel and still life, the next week is spent shaping air-dry clay coil pots, the next an introduction to watercolors, then mixed media collages and so on. A local painter visits to talk about life as a full time visual artist, a glass artist describes his craft, a sculptor talks about how she got her start....inspiration is given, skills are formed, a passion in born and a few more artists get their start.
