Proposal Title
ARTillery
Please describe your proposal?
ARTillery is a new collective of artists that has been busily working as part of the Allied Arts program sponsored by The Ohio State University Arts Initiative and the South Campus Gateway. Our proposal to turn an empty retail spot into a gallery was accepted and has since become a reality with The Shoebox. Over the last four months we have implemented a Featured Artist exhibition program, a monthly Art Market series, and a gallery focused on selling work by emerging artists. We represent over 25 artists in the gallery, and have provided more than 100 artists an opportunity to sell work during our Art Markets.
One goal of ARTillery’s has yet to be fulfilled: education. We have worked tirelessly to help proficient artists but desire to offer programming that is accessible to a broader range of the Columbus community. Recently we were promised a bit more space to work with in the South Campus Gateway and our hope is for that space to become “ARTillery Studios” and function as a learning center for the arts. The added space provides the potential for increased community outreach by offering a variety of classes from painting to ceramics to bookmaking for all ages.
However, the space is empty and void of resources. To realize this project we need funding to make the space a workable classroom.
What is the timeframe for the proposal and its completion?
1-3 months. If awarded a Feast Grant, we can begin to simultaneously plan educational programming and purchase or build the necessary equipment. We have already developed a proposal for instructors and the allocation of class fees funding the courses. Therefore, we can be prepared to offer classes as soon as The South Campus Gateway allows us to access the space.
How will you use the award money to complete the proposal?
$700 will be allocated to purchase lumber and hardware to build work tables, shelving, storage; as well as purchase stools, easels and other art materials.
$300 will be allocated to print full color brochures to advertise classes and workshops.
What makes this the proposal to vote for?
A Feast Grant will provide us with the start up funds to implement programming that gives to the community indefinitely. We just need to get the ball rolling, and the programming and community benefits will grow exponentially.
We are ready. We have the plan, we need the money.
We are a sure thing. ARTillery has successfully pulled off everything in our proposal for the Arts in the Alley space.
